man’s conduct whether it be thus or so, whether he act unwisely, (i.e. wickedly, Ps. 14:2 [1], or intelligently (i.e. piously, righteously); so that accordingly if the latter is the case, man cares only for his own well-being. In regard to סכן, lit. “to dwell beside one another, to become one’s neighbor,” and hence “to assist one another, to be serviceable, to be profitable,” comp. above on ch. 15:3; also 35:3.
